We stand with communities in defending the environment, through the power of law.

Why track? Indian democracy is based on a system of checks and balances amongst the legislative, judicial and executive organs. This system, found in varying degrees across democracies of the world and prevents concentration of power by any one organ.   Most environmental issues we come across on a day to day basis are connected with executive action or inaction, which is in turn guided by laws passed by the legislature and interpreted by the judiciary.  An important source of guidance provided by the legislature and judiciary is to be found in the language of our Ministers, Members of Parliament, Judges and Experts. This language is found in 'judicial orders' and 'answers' to questions raised in the Parliament, among other sources.   Tracking these judicial orders and answers is crucial when it comes to any effort to protect the environment because it informs us about what a particular environmental issue is really about, how is it evolving over time and what is being done (or not done) to address it.   In short, if you are a citizen concerned about an environmental issue, referring to such judicial orders and answers is an important source of information and guidance for you - for purposes ranging from research to advocacy.   This is where our National Green Tribunal and Legislative Tracking Tools come in, which make available a wealth of information about judicial orders and answers to questions raised in the parliament concerning the Himalayas, in a simple, easy to understand format. Simply search for any keyword that you may be interested in to begin taking action! Support our tracking efforts↗
